For increased torque and power the famous F350 Powerstroke Diesel was tweaked by the engineers of Ford in order to be able to provide extra horsepower and some more foot pounds of torque. The ratings for the mid 2000's Powerstroke F350 were now 570 feet of torque at 1800 rpm. It is reasonable to have only the Powerstroke F350 automatic tranny as the prime choice in a Powerstroke F350, as when towing 15,000 or 17,000 pounds, clutches could not support that stress. Ford is very well aware of that, having paid for many Powerstroke F350 clutches through the years for warranty repair work on the Powerstroke F350. The only option for this more powerful F350 Powerstroke Diesel engine was to have the five-speed automatic.
