In 2007 General Motors incorporated into the Duramax engine a variety of innovative engineering and technologies including Combustion control with closed crankcase aeration; Turbocharging variable-geometry system; Enhanced Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR); Exhaust control with new Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) and Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC); and Enhanced air induction system for noise reduction. This technological tour de force made the 2007 Duramax one of the finest engines of that model year, gasoline or diesel.
